About Echo Thrift Shop
Echo Thrift Shop, a volunteer thrift shop in Durham, and Friends in Action, a nonprofit that creates inclusive social and recreational opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, has begun a partnership that is a perfect fit for both organizations.
Echo was established in 2011 and is sponsored and housed by the Community Church of Durham. After six years in business, Echo has donated more than $75,000 to local and global charities from store profits. The store has become a successful, well-established business that offers customers quality clothing for low prices in a cozy environment.
Friends in Action wanted to expand social, recreational and volunteer opportunities for participants. After working closely with Echo volunteers and church committees, the partnership was established. Echo and the Community Church of Durham were looking for different ways to reach out and support different community projects. Partnering with Friends in Action was a great way to do this.
Due to the partnership, Echo has made changes in the store set up, has more clothing for all ages, shapes, and sizes and has expanded store hours. Friends in Action participants and staff will operate Echo on Mondays and Tuesdays while Echo volunteers operate the shop Wednesday through Saturday.
Come visit Echo and have a cup of coffee while you shop. Meet Friends in Action volunteers on Mondays and Tuesdays. About 35 people with disabilities and 20 UNH students work together to bring you great items while having a great time volunteering and socializing.
Provide a sense of community to shoppers, volunteers and those who donate with a warm and inviting environment.

Who Echo Supports
Echo Thrift Shop supports a variety of local environmental organizations, shelters, food pantries, support groups, international efforts, Community Church of Durham projects and Friends in Action.
A progressive United Church of Christ congregation, where all are welcome. Our history is rich, and dates back to the early colonial period as one of the many congregational churches that dotted the New England landscape. Over the centuries, as new challenges and opportunities arose, the congregation sought to engage with the times, while being committed to its Christian heritage.
